Where do Middy’s staff and customers like to hang out in their holiday time? Check out a fave spot for a coldie and a campfire over the Easter break...
Happy Camper: Wes Tennant, Middy’s Seymour Branch Manager
Location: Jingellic Campground, Murray River NSW
The Jingellic campground on the Murray River is the best of both worlds. Technically it’s a campground, with plenty of free unpowered tent sites but it also happens to be the front yard of a pub. Boom!
Located on the NSW side of the Murray River about 90 minutes upstream from Albury Wodonga, Jingellic is an ideal place to chill and relax. The location is perfect for families with a kid friendly swimming area in the river, fishing and canoeing and a boat ramp on site. There are good counter meals at the pub, hot showers (gold coin) and a short walk to the shop/cafe and most importantly, you’ll never run out of beer or ice!
According to Wes it can get busy at peak times (Easter is popular), so get there early to grab a spot, or if you’re a sparkie running your own business, why not pull a sickie and head up on a not so busy Friday morning?
So if a free camp with its own pub, right on the banks of one of the world’s great rivers sounds like your kind of gig... get on it. From Albury Wodonga, travel north along the Hume Hwy to Holbrook (check out the giant submarine – it’s a must for the kids) and take the turn-off for Jingellic, then stop when you get to Jingellic’s Bridge Hotel. Easy!
Tip: to get a good night’s sleep invest in a decent self inflating mattress or camp bed and avoid the dreaded midnight deflating mattress syndrome.
