Middy’s Lead The Way With EV Charging Station In NT
Middy’s Darwin branch is home to the first direct current (DC) electric vehicle (EV) charging station in the Northern Territory.
Middy’s Darwin is proud to offer customers a DC electric vehicle charger with up to 25kW output. This system allows you to charge electric cars 12 times faster than with a standard domestic socket and it is an ideal, affordable charging solution for commercial, fleet and private use vehicles.
Unlike the AC charger model which utilises a rectifier in the vehicle to convert power into direct current to charge the vehicle, the Delta Wallbox DC charger provides current directly to the batteries in the EV. Most vehicle rectifiers are limited to 11kW, specifically designed for short trips.
However, with DC charger compatible vehicles, not only are you able to charge the battery very quickly, you’re also able to drive a considerably further range (100-150km of additional range per hour plugged in) giving drivers peace of mind on longer trips. Richard Smith (aka @outbacktesla) was the first to test out the DC charger at the Darwin branch and shared his experience on Twitter. He followed up with an email to the branch saying “The system was very easy to use and after sitting on 21kW for awhile, the rate increased to 22kW where it sat rock solid until it popped up to 23kW just near the end. The average was 22kW across the session, which is excellent”.
With access to EV technology increasing with more and more charging stations being installed across the country at an incredibly fast pace, it presents a fantastic opportunity for both prospective EV buyers, but most importantly the electrical contractor market.
Middy’s are passionate about helping you, our customers, to grow your business and open new income streams. Our course ‘Introduction to Electric Vehicle Charging Equipment’, provides you with the relevant knowledge to help you get up to speed in this emerging area early.
It covers the relevant technical features of makes and models of electric vehicles coming into Australia, the charging equipment appropriate to them (both AC and DC charging), and considerations around installation practices. This training aims to enable you to select and safely commission appropriate electric vehicle charging equipment to support your customers.
