With a history dating back over eight decades, the aged facility holds a unique charm that Sean Moore from Red's Electrical has been preserving. Over the past few years, Sean has dedicated his expertise to designing and constructing a myriad of electrical solutions within the historic building. The Location: Federal Woollen Mills, North Geelong, VIC
Collaborating with Sean on these essential upgrades and new installations is Hank Terpstra, the National Switchboard Business Development Manager at Middy's.
The project involved the supply of group metering enclosures, custom distribution boards and a significant milestone – the replacement of an over 80-year-old switchboard with a state-of-the-art 7-meter-long 2000amp switchboard.

Of particular note in this revitalisation effort was the provision of a generator and automatic transfer switch to one of the tenants. An innovative touch was the use of LPG bottles to power up the generator, a departure from the conventional diesel-powered option. This forward-thinking approach aligns with the historic spirit of the Federal Woollen Mills, where innovation has been a constant thread throughout its storied past.
From its crucial role in producing military essentials during World War I to its contemporary reincarnation as a hub for diverse businesses, the Federal Woollen Mills stands as a living testament to the resilience and adaptability embedded in its bricks and beams. The fusion of its industrial heritage with modern functionality paints a picture of a precinct that honors its past while embracing the future.
"I've relied upon Hank to assist me through the various solutions needed to complete projects both small and large. He takes a lot of the stress away by assisting with design and keeping me up to date with where my orders are at. He also helps facilitate special services when programming some of the high end equipment." - Sean Moore, Red's Electrical
